Central Lenin Square

This is the main town region where the House of Soviets, Palace of Tselinniki, and hotels “Ishim” and “Moscow” were situated. Previously, when these buildings had not been constructed yet, an Orthodox Cathedral stood here. The area was also a place for fairs. The monument to V.I. Lenin occupied the central part of the square, standing approximately fifteen meters tall including its pedestal. The monument was unveiled on November 5, 1975. It stood against the backdrop of administrative buildings until the capital moved to Astana and the social structure changed. The statue of the Bolshevik leader was then relocated to the Ak-Bulak district (the Salt Hollow).
