Victory Avenue

Formerly known as Sportivnaya Street, Victory Avenue was renamed on May 5, 1965, according to the decision of the Executive Committee. The Avenue began its development in the 1950s-60s during the virgin lands reclamation period. To improve the infrastructure, architects and town planners from Moscow and Leningrad were invited. By the end of 1962, Tselinograd's housing stock amounted to 750,000 sq. meters. Leningrad builders erected 12 multiple dwellings and 6 five-storey schools. The construction of nine-storey buildings occurred in the 1970s-80s. Administrative buildings, medical establishments, a scientific and technological library, the Palace of Railwaymen, a musical school, the "House of Footwear" shop, and the "Jubilee" food store harmoniously lined Victory Avenue.
